Columbia High School Excels At State Music Contest

Columbia High School band and chorus students had a strong showing at the IHSA State Solo and Ensemble Contest held recently at Alton High School. The musicians sang or played prepared instrumental solo and ensemble events for adjudication by area music professionals.

Following the performances, the participants were awarded ratings based upon the quality of their performances. Ratings range from Division I -Superior to Division V -poor. This year the Columbia band and choir students garnered 18 Division I - (Superior) ratings, nine Division II - (Excellent) ratings, and one Division III (Good) rating. CHS students earned no Division IV or V ratings.

Eagles earning Division I ratings are: Sienna Haubein, Cailyn Haubein, Nick Bierman, Max Taake, J.T. Iorio, Casey Avise-Rouse, Tyler Grafton, Caleb Bahr, Nick Bahr, Luke Volmert, Will Denny, Ethan Sturm, Loren Koenigstein, John Maxwell, Sarah Grindstaff, Cole Richey, Dominic Delpoas, Mitchell Augustin, Tristan Oestreich, Kaytie Schmidt, Emma Groetecke, Blake Roider, Kaylyn Schnaus, Patrick Birner and Sarah Grindstaff. Taking home Division II ratings are: Emily Coleman, Nick Bahr, Blake Roider, Emma Groetecke, Megan Grossman, Patrick Dent, Joey Swan, Luke Volmert, Morgan Seals and Nick Bahr. Jake Koenigstein received a Division III rating.
