Counterfeit Bills Passed In Columbia

The Columbia Police Department is asking for the public’s assistance is identifying a person suspected of passing counterfeit money at a local businesses. According to the police report, on Sunday evening July 8, a person used counterfeit $20 bills to pay for merchandise at Marie’s Ice Cream Shoppe and McDonald’s. The person drove away in a red pickup truck with a yellow decal on the tailgate advertising “Clean Money”. Marie’s was able to provide a security camera photo of the suspect.

The counterfeit bills used all had the same serial number and the words “This Is A Replica” are in small print underneath Andrew Jackson’s picture (where ‘Jackson’ appears on legal tender).

Anyone who can help detectives identify this person or provide additional information is asked to call the CPD at 281-5151. Officers also request business owners to double check their currency to make sure they also have not received any counterfeit bills.
