Fatal Stabbing In Red Bud – Waterloo Man Arrested As Suspect

A Red Bud man is dead and a Waterloo man has been arrested following a Jan. 6 incident in rural Red Bud.

According to the initial report, at 10:59 p.m. of that night, a man arrived at Red Bud Regional Hospital suffering from a stab wound. As the emergency room personnel worked on the injured man, hospital staff dialed 911 to report the incident. Randolph County deputies were soon on the scene. Despite the ER staff’s best effort, the man succumbed to his injuries. A Randolph County coroner pronounced the man deceased. He has been identified as Adam J. Sesto of Red Bud. An autopsy will be conducted.

The Randolph County Sheriff’s Department is leading the investigation with the assistance from the Illinois State Police, Red Bud Police Department, Randolph County State’s Attorney, Randolph County Coroner and the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department.

Based on their initial investigation, a suspect was taken into custody. In the early morning hours of Sunday, Jan. 7, Monroe County Sheriff’s deputies took a 22-year-old Waterloo man into custody. Since charges have not yet been filed, his name has not yet been released.

The suspect is being detained at the Randolph County Jail in Chester on a 48-hour hold pending the ongoing investigation.
