Head-On Collision Along Valmeyer Highway

Head-On Collision Along Valmeyer Highway

A female was seriously injured in a near head-on car collision early Friday morning, Dec. 29, between Waterloo and Foster Pond. As of this morning, the woman, whose name has not yet been identified, is in critical condition at Barnes Hospital. She was a passenger in a vehicle that struck another car at 1:18 a.m. along Rt. 156 (Valmeyer Highway) near the intersection of Fountain Creek Ridge Lane (just west of the Monroe County Fairgrounds). Family and friends of the woman are praying for her as she undergoes emergency surgeries.

The drivers (both males) of the two vehicles involved were transported by ambulances to St. Anthony's Medical Center. Their injuries are not considered life-threatening.

According to the Illinois State Police, the initial report is that one of the cars crossed the center lane and sideswiped an oncoming vehicle causing a very hard collision. A 911 call was made and soon Waterloo firefighters, county deputies, Illinois State Police officers and the Monroe County EMS rushed to the scene. Waterloo firefighters used Jaws of Life equipment to extricate the female from the car. She was then loaded onto a Survival Flight helicopter which transported her to Barnes. The two male drivers were transported by ambulances to St. Anthony's.

Once all the victims were heading to hospitals, Rt. 156 was closed from Lakeview Drive to Trout Camp Road during the investigation. All lanes re-opened by 7 a.m.

Names and conditions of those involved, as well as the exact cause of the accident has not yet been released by the Illinois State Police.
