A thunderstorm with potential to be severe in nature will arrive in the St. Louis Metro East this afternoon. The affected area includes Monroe, Randolph and St. Clair counties.
A very warm and unstable air mass will evolve across the region. This warm air may result in record high temperatures this afternoon, but more importantly is expected to produce favorable conditions for severe thunderstorms from later this afternoon through tonight.
These severe thunderstorms may capable of producing rain, large hail, damaging winds and tornadoes. The majority of the severe weather is expected to occur after dark, so citizens should be prepared in advance to take necessary actions when the storm does arrive.
