Power Outage Knocks Out Electric At Fairgrounds And Rural Monroe County

An Ameren feed connecting to a Co-Op Electric line blew in rural Monroe County knocking out power for much of the rural area for a couple hours Wednesday evening. Utility crews were quick on the scene and fixed the issue. Power returned for most of the county by 10:30 p.m.

The power outage made things interesting at the Monroe County Fair. With the grand stands filled, the lights went out right in the middle of a Figure 8 heat. The darkness was soon filled with everyone turning on their cell phones. Within a few minutes fair officials soon turned on their emergency generator providing sufficient lighting for folks to make their way along the grand stands. The lighting from the generators helped get the Figure 8 Race back on time.

Race poured on the Monroe County Fair twice Wednesday - once in the early afternoon and a second time at 8 p.m., soon after the start of the Figure 8 Race. The downpour made for a wet and wild ride for the drivers and they battled through the mud.
