Thieves Steal Wheels And Tires From Car Dealerships

Over the past couple of weeks burglars have targeted two car dealerships in Columbia. The suspects got away with the wheels and tires from three vehicles. Each theft took place from the time the stores closed on a Saturday and when they reopened the next business week.

On Dec. 18, the Dodge dealership on Admiral Weinel Boulevard reported the theft of wheels and tires from a new 2017 Dodge Charger and also a used 2013 Dodge Ram 1500. The initial police report is the theft took place after the close of business on Saturday, Dec. 16, and the opening on Monday, Dec. 18.

Police officers were then called out on Monday, Dec. 26 to the George Weber Chevy dealership along Old State Rt. 3 on the north end of town. A 2013 Mercedes Benz parked on their used car lot had its wheels and tires stolen. Again, the initial report is the theft likely took place between the close of business on Saturday, Dec. 23, and their reopening on Tuesday, Dec. 26 (the day after Christmas).

The Columbia Police Department is requesting the public’s assistance with these incidents.

“Anyone who has observed suspicious activity at either dealership or who has knowledge of someone possessing and attempting to sell the above-referenced vehicles’ wheels is asked to call 281-5151,” said Columbia Police Chief Jerry Paul.
