Two Columbia Residential Break-ins Over Past Week

Columbia police are asking residents to report any suspicious activity after they received reports of two residential break-ins in one week.

On the morning of May 22, the Columbia Police Department received a called to report a possible break-in at a home in the 300 block of West Park Drive. A neighbor spotted jewelry and other small items in their backyard, and walked around to discover the glass back door of the home next door had been shattered. The neighbor then called police. The homeowners had been out of town since May 18, but police suspect the break-in happened May 21. CPD detectives are working the case with an Illinois State Crime Scene Unit. So far, they have determined that cash, jewelry and medications were taken in the break-in.

In the late hours of Saturday, May 26, into the early morning hours of Sunday, May 27, thieves broke into two sheds behind a home in the 1400 block of Frontage Road on the south end of Columbia.  The owners estimate $2,000 in power tools were stolen. The CPD continues to investigate both break-ins and asks the public to call 911 if they spot anything suspicious.
