Two people were injured, one seriously, in a head-on collision overnight on Rt. 3, on the east end of Monroe County, a couple miles west of Red Bud. A semi-truck and a pickup collided just before 1 a.m. Saturday morning, March 4, near the turn-off to Ames Road.
The driver of the pickup, Corey Koester of rural Evansville, was seriously injured. Red Bud firefighters used Jaws of Life equipment to extricate him from the vehicle. Koester was airlifted by Survival Flight to Barnes Medical Center. Daryll Hall of Elkville (south of DuQuoin) was the driver of the semi-truck. He was transported to a St. Louis hospital. His injuries were not considered serious.
A cause of the accident has not yet been released by the Illinois State Police.
