VHS Advances To Baseball Super Sectional

Valmeyer High School won the baseball sectional today with a 7-4 victory over Carrollton. The Pirates play Tuesday in the Springfield Class 1A Super Sectional at Lincolnland College. This is Valmeyer's best baseball season since 1971 when the Pirates made it to the Illinois Sweet 16 (in an era without sports class breakdowns).

In today’s game, freshman phenom Philip Reinhardt scattered four hits over 6 2/3 innings, walking three and striking out five. When his pitch count reached the max (105), Drew Maus came in relief and got the last batter to fly out. Carrollton was threatening with runners on base, and Maus earned a well-deserved save.

Once again, third-baseman Easton Wallace was the hitting star. He went 2-3, including a double, 2 RBI, a walk, and two runs scored. Also starring at the plate were Andrew Whipple (2-2, two runs scored), Jake Krekel (2-3 with an RBI), and Cole Juelfs (RBI, one run, a double).
