Winter Weather On The Way – Arriving Thursday Afternoon

Don’t get used to today’s warm temperature, as Mother Nature will remind us that Monroe County is still in the middle of winter. Make plans now for an evening of cold temperatures, freezing rain, light snow and slick driving conditions. The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory from 3 p.m. this afternoon to 6 a.m. Friday morning

A strong cold front is making a beeline toward the St. Louis metropolitan area. The temperature will drop from 57 degrees (as of 11:30 a.m.) to the mid-20 by this evening. The front is expected to arrive in Monroe County after 5 p.m., with deteriorating conditions continuing overnight.

Rain will change to a mix of freezing rain, sleet and light snow. As the temperature drops below 32 degrees, the moisture will freeze on surfaces, especially on roadways, overpasses and sidewalks. In addition, one-half inch snowfall is expected to cover the ice buildup.

Folks are also reminded to take necessary measures to insure outdoor farm animals and pets have shelter, food and plenty of warm water.
