Despite the best efforts of a bipartisan group of Southern Illinois politicians, the ATA Grand American Trap Shooting Championship will not take place this year at the Sparta World Shooting Complex in Sparta. Gov. J.B. Pritzker ordered the event not take place during the covid-19 pandemic. Both State Rep. Nathan Reitz (D-Steeleville) and State Senator Paul Schimpf (R-Waterloo) urged the governor to grant an exception for this particular event because of the tremendous economic impact the Grand American annually provides to the region.
